How to show up on Google Maps in Carroll County
When somebody searches for what you do, the first thing on the screen is a map with three businesses on it. Those three get most of the calls. Everyone below is fighting for what is left. Getting into that group is free and takes about an hour of work, and most businesses around here never do it.
Claim your Google Business Profile
Search your business name on Google. If a panel comes up on the right side that you have never edited, somebody or something already created it and it is sitting there unmanaged. Click Own this business and follow the steps. Google mails a postcard with a code to your address, which takes about a week. This is the single highest value hour of marketing you will do this year.
Fill in every field, not just the required ones
Google ranks complete profiles above incomplete ones. Put in your exact hours including holidays, your service area if you travel to customers, every service you offer, your phone number, and your website. Pick the most specific category available. Not contractor, but roofing contractor. Not restaurant, but barbecue restaurant.
Post photos, and keep posting them
Profiles with recent photos get noticeably more clicks. Your truck, your storefront, your crew, finished work, the food. Ten good photos beats fifty blurry ones. Add a few every month so the profile looks alive.
Ask for reviews, out loud, every time
This is the part people skip because it feels awkward. It is also the part that matters most. Ask when the customer is happiest, which is usually right when you finish. Say it plainly: would you mind leaving a quick Google review, it takes about a minute and it helps me a lot. Text them the link. Most people say yes when you actually ask.
Reply to every review, including the bad ones. A calm, polite reply to a complaint reads better to the next customer than the complaint does.
Make sure your name, address, and phone match everywhere
Google cross checks your listing against everything else it finds. If your Chamber listing, your Facebook page, and your website spell your street differently or list an old phone number, that confusion costs you position. Pick one exact version and use it everywhere.
Point it at a real website
A profile that links to a working website outranks one that links nowhere, and the click has somewhere to land. This is where the map and the website work together. The map gets you found. The site closes the deal.
The short version
Claim the profile. Complete every field. Add photos monthly. Ask every happy customer for a review. Keep your details identical everywhere. Link to a site that works on a phone.
