Local vs.
What a small business website actually costs in Arkansas in 2026
Ask three people what a website costs and you will get three answers between fifty dollars and fifty thousand. Both ends are true. It depends entirely on who is building it and what they hand you at the end. Here is what the money actually buys in 2026 if you run a business in Arkansas.
Doing it yourself: $200 to $400 a year, plus your weekends
Wix, Squarespace, and GoDaddy all run between $16 and $49 a month once you add a domain and remove their branding. The software is not the cost. The cost is the twenty or thirty hours you spend learning it, and the fact that most owners get about seventy percent of the way through and stop. A half finished site does more damage than no site, because people find it and assume you went out of business.
A local freelancer: $800 to $2,500
This is the most common route in small towns and the results swing wildly. Some are excellent. Many are someone's nephew who built two sites in college. The real risk here is not quality, it is speed. Freelancers who do this on the side take weeks to answer, and the project quietly dies half built. Ask one question before you hire anyone local: when did you last launch a site, and can I see it?
A marketing agency: $5,000 to $25,000
Agencies in Fayetteville, Rogers, and Springdale do serious work and charge accordingly. If you are a multi location operation with a marketing budget and a person to manage it, that money is well spent. If you are a two truck plumbing company in Green Forest, you are paying for account managers and discovery workshops you do not need.
Offshore marketplaces: $150 to $600
The price is real. So is the problem. You are five time zones away from whoever built it, the site is usually a template with your logo dropped in, and when something breaks in eight months there is nobody to call. Cheap is not cheap if it has to be redone.
What you should actually be comparing
Price is the easy number to compare, so everyone compares it and ignores the four things that matter more.
Who owns it when it is done. If you stop paying and the site disappears, you were renting, not buying. Get this in writing.
Whether it works on a phone. Most people looking you up are standing in a parking lot on a cracked screen. If your site is hard to use there, it is failing where it counts.
Whether you can reach the person who built it. In a small town this is the whole thing. You want a number that gets answered.
How long it takes. Every week you spend waiting is a week of people searching for what you do and finding your competitor instead.
