Local vs.

What I See When I Look Up Local Businesses in Harrison Arkansas

4 min read

I spend a lot of time looking up local businesses online. It is part of what I do at Tillwork Studio. I search for businesses in small towns across northwest Arkansas, look at what comes up, and think about what is working and what is not. Harrison is a town I look at regularly. Here is an honest account of what I find.

The businesses that show up first when you search for a service in Harrison are almost always the ones with real websites. Not necessarily the most established businesses. Not the ones with the best reputation. Just the ones with a functional site that Google can read. That pattern is consistent enough that it is impossible to ignore.

The second thing I notice is how many Harrison businesses have outdated websites that were built sometime around 2012 and have not been touched since. These sites often have broken links, photos that do not load, text that is too small to read on a phone, and contact information that may or may not still be accurate. In some ways these are worse than having no website at all, because they create a bad first impression for customers who do find them.

The third thing I see is good businesses buried on page two or three of Google results simply because they have no web presence. A plumber who has been serving Harrison for twenty years, invisible online because everything lives on a Facebook page that Google cannot index properly. That is a real competitive disadvantage and it is entirely fixable.

What I do not see much of in Harrison is a local business that has a clean, modern, mobile-friendly website with clear information and a strong local presence. That gap is an opportunity. The businesses that close it first will own that search real estate for a long time.

I am not writing this to be critical of Harrison businesses. Most of them are doing excellent work. The web presence problem is not a reflection of the quality of the business. It is just a problem that has not been prioritized yet. And in a town the size of Harrison, fixing it does not require a big investment.
